HOW TO CONSIGN WITH US
Our business would not function without the unique, high quality, and well-maintained merchandise
that we get from our consignors. Not only can you make money from something that you no longer want—
you can also do your piece to keep things out of our island landfills!
Before we get started, we need to be sure that your merchandise is sellable. To do this, please email high-resolution photos of each item you wish to consign to info@frenchandscouser.com. Take clear, well-lit photos from multiple angles to showcase the item’s best features. Provide an accurate description of each piece, highlighting unique features, condition and history, if possible. We will review your items within 48 hours and will let you know what we can accomplish for you.
We request that you do not bring in photos on your camera or phone, as there is not always a consignment specialist on hand and available to look at your items. Please do not bring in any items that have not been pre-approved by us.
Condition
Evaluating your furniture and accessories on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, we look for pieces that are in between a 7 and a 10.
-
The finish and paint on solid surfaces must be consistent over all the surfaces (especially the primary surfaces such as top and front), and well maintained with no watermarks, no discoloration or fading, no (or very minor) scratches, or other noticeable flaws (a "noticeable flaw" is one which can be seen at a distance of 2 feet or more under bright lighting).
-
Legs and frame must be sturdy with no wobble.
-
Glass & mirrors must be free of scratches and chips.
-
No broken or missing hardware/pieces. Doors and drawers must operate smoothly and close correctly.
-
Antique furniture which has been well maintained or recently restored will be considered. We also will accept antique reproductions if they are in good condition.
-
Upholstered furniture: cushions and pillows must show no pilling or sagging or be out of shape. When sitting down, the cushion and springs must be firm and supportive ("sinkers" will not be accepted).
-
Upholstery must be absolutely clean and hygienic, no apparent wear, and odor-free. No stains. No pet hair. No tears.
-
Artwork: no fading or degradation of coloring; artwork and matting must be free of any moisture damage (mold, waviness or warping); the hanging apparatus must be sturdy (not loose, and no string); glass must be free of scratches.
-
Ceramics/glass must be scratch-free and without chips or abrasions.
-
All items should be clean and in sellable condition. However if repairs or cleaning are required, French & Scouser will charge a minimum of 10% of the sale price to the consignor, depending on the scope of the repair or cleaning. This will be discussed and agreed upon prior to consigning and will be deducted from commission.
Please see below a general list of items that we do not accept:
-
Appliances: large or small. We may make an exception for unused larger appliances

TV’s/CD's/CD Players/DVD Players

Children's toys

Living Environment
We only accept items from smoke-free homes. Items with strong odors, such as mold or smoke, will not be accepted.
Estate Management
French & Scouser will also work with clients who are letting go of a household of items, such as estates, moving sales or airbnb change-overs. We would be happy to arrange an on-site evaluation of items. Please contact us for information.
Delivery and Pick Up of Items to/from the Store
Consignors must make an appointment to deliver pre-approved items to our store during our receiving hours, Tuesday through Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.
If you need assistance delivering your items to the store, we work with a professional delivery service, that can pick your items up and bring them to us. They can also give you a quote for delivery from the store to your location. Please ask us for the number.
Pricing and Conditions of Sale
After arrival, our pricing specialist will inspect each of your items, and then recommend pricing with consideration given to condition, quality of construction, manufacturer, original purchase price, style, and demand of the item. The retail price for consigned goods must be agreed upon by both the consignor and French & Scouser. French & Scouser reserves the right to reject items that do not adhere to the guidelines. We view each consignment as a partnership. It is in everyone's interest to price items at a fair market value that would realistically sell within 30 days.
If you have listed your items for sale on Marketplace or Craigslist, please let us know so that we can price them accordingly if you decide to sell them through us. The retail value will be the same or lower than your listing.
Our consignors make 60% of the sale. (This percentage may change in unique situations and will be discussed and approved by both parties prior to acceptance of item.)
It is always our goal and in everyone’s best interest to sell your item as quickly as possible for as much money as we can. Our markdown schedule serves as an effective strategy to expedite the process. We use an automatic price discounting feature to ensure that your item sells quickly, and at the correct market price. Our markdown schedule can be found here.
Due to limited space, some items may be stored in our storage area until we have the space for it on the floor. The consignment markdown schedule goes into effect on the day that merchandise is placed on the showroom floor, not from the day we accept it from you.
If the item does not sell in the first 60 days, the consignor has the option to take the item back. After 60 days, if the item is not picked up by the consignor, the item becomes the property of French & Scouser. It is the full responsibility of the consignor to retrieve their items. We cannot call consignors to advise of upcoming expiration dates.
Transparency with our Clients
Once your furniture is in our store, and after the consignment agreement is signed by both parties, we catalog each item into our specialty consignment system. This system has an app that consignors can download, as well as a browser access, which allows them to track the status of each item, giving full transparency for the item(s) they are trying to sell, including the price, markdown schedule, and payout dates. We will email you a link to this when the contract is signed and the inventory is in the system.
After a successful sale, the consignor's share will be processed automatically. There are multiple ways to be paid:
-
A check can be issued on the 15th of the following month (ie: an item sold any time in July will be paid on August 15th). Checks can be collected in person at our location until the end of the month in which they are issued. If not retrieved by then, the check will be mailed to the consignor ($3 fee).
-
Direct deposit into consignor's bank account ($2 fee) through ACH.
